This role combines product design for the merchant lifecycle with ownership of the design system that keeps experiences consistent as the domain grows. In the Operational Journey cluster, you will design onboarding, dashboard, and KYC-heavy lifecycle flows while balancing clarity and compliance requirements. Your first design-system task is to assess the existing system, consolidate and document it, and establish reusable tokens and patterns. You will also set design standards and guide decisions in areas without a dedicated designer, including developer-experience surfaces, through standards and critique rather than designing every screen. You will mentor other designers when needed. You will report to the Product Design & UX Director for Customer Lifecycle and initially serve as the domain’s senior design owner. The role divides time between product design and design-system consolidation, with more emphasis on the system while its foundation is built, then a shift toward product work. The team works from validated findings rather than assumptions and values direct, candid critique. The primary requirement is strong product design craft, demonstrated by a portfolio showing depth, the ability to simplify complex flows, and decisions grounded in user problems. You should also demonstrate rigorous systems thinking through reusable components, tokens, and patterns, including consideration of consistency, versioning, and how others will use them. Experience rebuilding a legacy system alone is not required. Fluency in communicating required information clearly in regulated products is a strong signal. Additional strengths include experience consolidating or migrating a design system, fintech or payments product design, front-end literacy, and a record of mentoring designers.
