As an Engineering Manager, you will lead and develop backend engineering teams responsible for creating and maintaining reliable, scalable, high-quality systems that support Ajaib’s financial products. You will apply technical judgment and people leadership to help your team deliver impactful solutions while upholding strong engineering standards. Working with Product, Design, and other engineering stakeholders, you will turn business priorities into practical technical plans, guide execution, and build a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement. You will also help engineers grow professionally while ensuring backend systems continue to meet business and customer needs. Responsibilities include guiding the design and development of scalable, secure backend services; contributing hands-on when needed through coding, debugging, and reviews of critical pull requests; supporting production incidents and working with engineers to resolve them; participating in architecture and system design discussions; making sound technical decisions; translating product and business priorities into engineering roadmaps and milestones; managing dependencies and identifying delivery risks early; coaching and mentoring engineers through regular feedback and career development; fostering ownership, accountability, and continuous learning; improving processes for testing, deployment, monitoring, and incident management; and partnering with Product, Design, and other engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions. Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience; proven software engineering experience, with at least 2 years managing engineers; a strong backend engineering background covering architecture, API design, databases, and production operations; experience with Java and/or Golang, including MySQL or PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kafka or RabbitMQ; knowledge of distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architecture; experience with high-traffic systems in fintech or other complex environments; a record of leading projects from planning through production; clear communication with Product, Design, and engineering stakeholders; the ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical audiences; an ownership mindset and commitment to continuous improvement; and fluent English with the ability to work comfortably with distributed, international teams.
