Deskripsi Pekerjaan

Fuel50 operates a workforce transformation platform that helps organisations understand workforce capability, develop skills, and support internal mobility within an AI-driven environment. The company's products merge skills intelligence, talent marketplace capabilities, and responsible AI to assist people and organisations in progressing to their next stage. Fuel50 is seeking a Product Design Lead to guide the evolution of its product experience and design function. This is a senior player-coach position involving leading and growing the product design team while remaining hands-on — defining direction, influencing product strategy, prototyping concepts, and helping teams deliver high-quality experiences. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Product and Engineering as a leadership trio, shaping decisions across the organisation and contributing to Fuel50's goal of building products that are simple, trusted, and valuable. Responsibilities include: - Leading, managing, and coaching product designers, supporting their development and helping them advance in their careers. - Establishing and communicating a clear product design vision spanning Fuel50's skills intelligence, talent mobility, and AI-powered experiences, and conveying the trajectory of the products in a way that resonates with customers, colleagues, and leadership. - Taking ownership of design direction independently — identifying opportunities, forming perspectives, and prototyping ideas to bring them to life. - Contributing a strong perspective to senior discussions, challenging assumptions constructively, and influencing business-wide decisions. - Partnering with Product and Engineering from discovery through to delivery, balancing customer value, design quality, technical feasibility, and pace. - Designing human-centred AI experiences with appropriate trust, explainability, user control, and clear handoffs, including agent and assistant experiences that operate across multiple surfaces such as the Fuel50 platform, Microsoft Teams, and Copilot. - Developing design engineering capability and being comfortable building and shipping working prototypes or code personally. - Evolving the design system, accessibility standards (including WCAG compliance), and design-to-code practices to ensure Fuel50 maintains coherence and quality across all products. - Shaping the design team structure, capability, hiring, planning, and ways of working as the organisation develops. Requirements: - Experience in product design within a SaaS or technology environment (7 or more years suggested), including at least 2 years leading, managing, or coaching designers, with a history of building healthy, high-performing teams. - Strong product design skills across discovery, interaction design, visual design, prototyping, research, and shipped digital products. - Experience designing complex, connected systems and journeys for multiple personas, ideally in an enterprise or B2B product context. - Ability to think broadly and set an inspiring vision while remaining practical about what can be learned and delivered next. - Ability to generate ideas and direction and communicate them clearly through stories, prototypes, and design narrative. - Confidence engaging with experienced senior stakeholders and influencing through clarity, judgement, and strong communication. - Experience working closely with Product and Engineering as a genuine cross-functional trio. - Technical fluency and willingness to engage with code. Candidates should be comfortable building working prototypes using HTML, CSS, JavaScript or similar tools, and should have contributed code that has been shipped to production — for example, front-end changes or design system components submitted through pull requests. - Hands-on experience using AI coding and design tools, such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor, to prototype faster and deliver real work. The ideal candidate uses these tools well and can demonstrate how they have changed their team's workflow. - Working knowledge of accessibility and WCAG. Candidates should have designed to WCAG standards, tested for it, and incorporated accessibility into their team's design system and review process. - Interest in design systems and data-informed decision-making. Not every box needs to be ticked. Fuel50 values the quality of thinking, how candidates work with people, and their ability to transform ambitious ideas into stronger product experiences. All Fuellies are a core part of the culture and contribute to making Fuel50 a great place to work. Additional benefits include: - A day off on your birthday and your Fuel50 anniversary - A "ReFuel Day" once a quarter to relax and recharge - Remote work and flexible work times — supportive of school commitments, off-peak travel, and life events - A progressive parental leave policy - Comprehensive fully subsidised health insurance with Southern Cross Fuel50's team operates fully remotely, with an HQ in New Zealand, and team members across five countries. A co-working space in the BHive in Takapuna is used occasionally for team and strategic planning and other events. If candidates are based outside Auckland and are required on-site, travel costs are covered. The culture centres on continuous and respectful feedback and recognition — being part of a team working toward a shared goal and supporting each other at every step. There are #SuperHeroAwards at quarterly planning meetings and spontaneous recognition and shout-outs across the business. Colleagues are expected to have each other's back — everyone wants to see you succeed and works hard to help you do so. The team works hard and delivers strong results to clients. The application process: apply if this sounds like you. Even if you're unsure whether you're ready or don't meet all requirements yet, apply anyway — every application will be reviewed. Include a link to your portfolio or attach it as part of your application. This role is based in New Zealand. Candidates must hold the relevant right to work in NZ — citizenship or a work visa — at the time of application.
